Backseat Cities

Backseat Cities: Travels Through Places People Only Live In is the story of my travels to mid-sized cities overlooked by travelers and the travel industry—places which, fairly or not, "take a backseat" to big tourist destinations like New York and small towns such as Carmel.

  • Lafayette, LA: The Heart of Cajun Country
  • Cleveland, OH: Columbus's Hot Sister
  • Rochester, NY: The Jewel in Western New York's I-90 Crown
  • Boise, ID: The Land of Lincoln and Happy People
  • Tulsa, OK: A Perfect Four-Day City
  • Des Moines, IA: Skateboards and Great Food

More on this site

Most blog posts will be about travel, writing, or travel writing.

I will stray, though. Reviews of a new album, a spy novel, an old episode of Six Feet Under, or the latest summer blockbuster. I might report on a Crew game or just tell a story.

If you toggle the switch above the words "Recent Tweets" and it still says, "Nothing to see here - yet," it means the idiot who broke Twitter either hasn't gotten around to fixing this feature, or intentionally broke it to get us to pay for it (which is moronic, I can easily live without it and it generated traffic to his site).
